Referrals, Backlinks and Web Directories to make your SEO go bang!

Shortly after launching this blog I went on a marathon backlinks building session and successfully submitted http://www.revesdemoutons.com to as many free web directories as I could find! I did this before when I had my photography business and as tedious as it is, it did seem to work.

Since then I’ve regularly updated this list to add more quality sites and remove anything that’s no longer free or has lapsed in quality. I'm working on updating the links as I go, but also, finding which ones no longer accept free additions, as well as which ones require backlinks for addition.

Sure, directory submissions are very VERY boring, but they’re totally worth doing!

And submitting Rêves de Moutons to the free directories in this list was actually the first ever active link building exercise I did.

I chose to do this first because it can take months to get your submissions approved.

So after scraping the internet for free web directory lists I squeezed 76 potential candidates into an excel spreadsheet.

Most of the lists I found from Google searches were either duplicates or very out of date. The most up-to-date web directory list was one I found later just as I was finishing up submitting to the below directories – Top 100 free directory list.

Here are the sites I have submitted to, along with links to the directories. I'll keep updating as I go, in the meantime they are:

TSection: Reciprocating linking site

VieSearch - Life Powered Search: Requires reciprocal link and/or paid submission

Active Search Results: A totally free directory listing

Free Web Submission: True to it's name, requires creating an account, but otherwise free submission with no backlinks required.

SoMuch - Free directory listings to provide backlinks without reciprocal links on your site.

Jayde: Free directory listing including optional information of Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, Google+ and Map info

Yext.com: Yext allows you to check your listing for accuracy across multiple search engines and directories. When I checked, it looked as if Rêves de Moutons was not listed on Bing (which of course is a big search site!) If you choose to pay for the service, they will supposedly fix your listings for you. I chose to go the DIY method and fix them myself.

Tupalo is another business directory listing which requires a bit of work to get your account active, but also, has very little competition at least in our category.

When I started this again, I found that THE backlink site, THE directory of directories, DMOZ is no more. It seems google gave that the directory the axe and as a result, I no longer know how relevant directory listings are. That being said, it's a day's work, or maybe a week of days work to get your site listed, and worst case scenario you don't see any major results.
